New laptop, out of the box, 331 gigs used I just bought a new windows 8 laptop. I was looking around it's settings and noticed that 331gigs were already being used on it! What is on my computer that is taking up that much space? I uninstalled around 10 or 20 useless software items, but my used space only increased by a gig? Solved: Can I make a backup copy of my Windows 7 OS using copy/paste? I just purchased a pre-owned Lenovo T420 laptop with Windows 7, but amazingly, over these many years, I've never had to back up my OS before because someone (my tech guy mostly) had always done it for me. Anyhow, while I do intend to make a full system backup copy, which I have no doubt will include the Windows 7 OS, I would also like to create a backup (disk) copy of my OS only since no install disks came with the computer. I can load the Windows 7 OS onto an 80Mb CD, but the entire hard disk backup will take many gigabytes and I intend to use a 32 Gb flash drive for that purpose. My first and essential question is, can I create a Windows 7 Pro "restore" disk by just copying and pasting the entire "Windows" file on my hard drive to a CD or Flash drive...or is there more to it than that? Windows 7 64 bit home premium safe boot I recently(one week ago) had my my old PC which I gave to my wife years ago upgraded by my local computer shop. They installed two new one tera hard drives, a new mother board and memory, and Windows 7 64 bit Home Premium. I installed IE9 and was in the process of installing different programs and setting up accounts for family members. Everything was working just fine until I attempted to start in safe mode. I tried using the F8 key but that didn't work(It doesn't work on my PC either). I went to "msconfig" and clicked on "Boot" and "Safe". "Minimal" was already checked with a dot and I left it that way and I clicked nothing else. I rebooted and had a black screen. cannot download anything from the internet I am using ESET smart security 6 and one day I was surfing videos and a message appears from my antivirus that a threat has been found. So I decided to delete that file but the antivirus failed to delete that file and due to all this I think I cannot download any files from the internet. I am using IE10 and when I try to download any file, the internet explorer downloads the file till 100 percent and after that it says the file cannot be downloaded because it contains virus. Router Firmware Update I have a netgear wnr1000 v2. I have been in the router settings and had it check for the latest firmware. It tells me I have the latest and that version is 1.0.0.12NA. Now, when I go to the netgear website and look up my router here: http://downloadcenter.netgear.com/ it says the latest version is 1.1.2.54. So I download it and go to install it to my router and get the error "Firmware upgrade failed. Please check your file." I know it's the right file. Hi, I recently sent an email to customerrelations@toshiba-tap.com to try and sort out a possible battery / battery reading problem on my Toshiba Qosmio F60-10J that I have owned for under a year (is therefore covered under warranty). Solved: Issue with Windows 7 Login Hi, I am having an issue with WIndows 7. When I unpluged my HP ELitebook 6930P from the docking station I left it for a short period and returned to it not functioning and not displaying anything on the monitor. Now I am unable to log in to the system in any way other than Safe Mode. Startup Repair does not work, there are now system restore points and windows memory check shows no problem. The system sits on the log in screen of windows 7 and I can enter my username and password but can not click the "->" button or rather when I click it nothing happens. When I hit "Switch user" the windows start screen freezes but I can still use my mouse. Gateway NE56R31u laptop OK.... here is what all I have managed to dispel about this laptop... First, it WILL run and FULLY UTILIZE 16GB of DDR3 ram, not the 8GB that Gateway says. Second, this thing, even with the CELERON B830 CPU, when running an SSD FLIES!!! Second, I did find a CPU that is the I7 and a 35 watt power. I should know by Sunday if this motherboard will support it. There was another poster who said something about getting a 45 watt I7 and installing it. Don't know if you are still out here or not, but I would stick with the 35 watt. $400 is a LOT of money to risk if the motherboard does not recognize it and by chance the store you bought it from does not take it back. Red ERROR message Upon start up my windows 7 operating system on my asus laptop will not load and goes to a white screen. In the upper top of the screen is a message in red letters that reads, "meet error" and beginning at the left side is the word ERROR in full caps splashed across the screen. Can't get my brother on my Minecraft server I want to make a Minecraft server for me and my brother to play on together, we both have Minecraft and i have the server up. I can get on it but I can't figure out how to get him on it. From what I understand I don't need to port forward because we are in the same house and on the same internet. I've tried putting the Ip address in the server address, but it always says it is out of reach. Honestly I have never put up a server. I downloaded the software and ran everything. I have not done anything like port forwarding, I don't know how to and from what I've read I don't need. I can get on the server I jest can't get him on. We both have a PC both with Windows. Recently did a system recovery and now everything's slow and crashes. Before my system recovery, not much was wrong with my computer, it was just getting slow mainly because my hard drive was pretty much full. I tried cleaning it out the best I could a couple times but it just kept filling up more and more, and I play a lot of games so things just started getting a little slow compared to what it was when I first started playing. So I did a system recovery, i've done it before with other computers, and i think maybe once with this one a while ago before I got a new CPU/Processor/Graphics card/ect. I started it, used my Future shop recovery to default disc, everything was fine until it was done and a lot of my drivers that use to work didn't. That was the first problem. Someone using My email address to spam I received an email from MY email address that my spam filter put in my spam box, but I didn't send it. How do people send emails like this, and how do I prevent it? I use Yahoo/AT&T for my email. I checked my "sent" folder and that email was not in there. I also right-clicked the address to see if there was a "real" sender in the code, but it was my email address. I used to be able to mouse over a return address and see the real sender. can I hook up non wireless with adapter without pluggin in cable to non wireless I have verizon fios wireless router (m1424wr) hooked up to my desktop. putting another desktop in bedroom with vista and shows to have nvidia nforce but I doubt it is wireless. going to use D-Link adapter. What CPU is right for me ? Hi, I have researched around Google for 5 days into weather or not to get the new Gen of Intel's new CPU's. I may self was looking at getting the i5 3570k with a 770GTX, But the new gen has came out with the new i5 4570k haswell CPU. To my understanding there's nothing different between them except for the power wattage and the heat. I don't want to do wrong in building my first system, I would like it to last. So to round this all up Is it worth getting the new Haswell CPU or Go for the 3rd gen CPU's (i5 3570k) Thanks! Catalyst 13.4 and Google Chrome Flash/Shockwave issues Gang I have a Radeon 6570 1GB card, windows 7 ultimate 64, in HTPC type system. Updated to AMD/ATI CAtalyst 13.4 and am having regular crashes on flash content on Google Chrome. Anyone else seeing this? Is there a set of catalyst settings I need to tweak to remedy? IE10 Flashplayer/shockwave works just dandy. I prefer Chrome, other things being equal... obviously at the moment I do not favor it. I checked Chrome plugins - not duplicates there; and I have tried a few variables in catalyst, with no effect on the issue.
