Pilots changing career

Good afternoon PPRuNe,
We see a lot of people posting in this section about changing career to be a pilot. Recently myself and a number of fellow pilots have been thinking the other way due to unstable rosters, job instability etc to change career from being a pilot.
So those of you who have or know people who have left aviation what kind of careers did you/they go for? Is there any particular careers that suit pilots better than others?
P.S. Hope this is the right section and I don't mean to annoy or dishearten newbies but this is the reality of being a modern day airline pilot.

gradirei sapere se è possibile rinnovare il MEP/IR in uno Stato che non sia lo stesso che ha emesso la licenza. Ho CPL svedese, posso rinnovare in Italia o devo recarmi in Svezia (o trasferire la licenza)?
Lo stesso discorso vale per li medical, prima classe italiana "convertita" in prima classe svedese può essere rinnovata all'IML?

H264 converters

Setting up my new PC, I have some H264 files from a mates surveillance vids. I would have thought Win 8 would be able to play them but it doesn't offer any help to find out why.
I downloaded some codecs from download.com, but they don't seem to work either (and I can't seem to see the codecs on the hard drive either...)
Any hints out there?
I have to make these H264 files viewable on PCs without this hassle...

About Compass Test,Reasoning Test and Aptitude Test

Does anyone need the software or program for practicing the compass, reasoning and aptitude test?
I know that the Skytest and latest pilot job have some similar function.
However, I would like to know that is there any professional website or software for training those test specifically for Cathay Pacific, Qantas, CTC, OAA, or even DragonAir......
Btw, my first choice is to find the software for Cathay Pacific and DragonAir.
Please give me some advice and suggestions. I don't mind its free or need to pay!

now when the PFsays: SET QNH should the PNFsay: QNH SET PASSING... or should the PNF say: QNH ...(for example 1014) PASSING ...FEET.

Let ATPL Theoreticals Laps?

I'm sat here with CPL in the bag, ATPL Theoretical time limit approaching though some regular GA flying to keep my hand in and a good non-flying career job so all's well. The airlines aren't my ultimate ambition though I appreciate are pretty much the only way to fly full time and support yourself financially (if times were good again I'd still go for it). It's most likely I'll just hang around on the fringes of GA where I consider the most interesting flying is though pretty much no pay so will only ever be a hobby/pastime. I'm considering letting the ATPL's lapse as I'm thinking if strong employment opportunities ever do arise again I'd be better to have more current IR skills and I should be able to retake the ATPL's with 2-3 months of revision which I'd need for professional job's in a

Airbus A320 L/G safety valve logic

Referencing DSC-32-10-10 p3&4
There is a statement under Normal Operation of Gear and Doors:
The green hydraulic system actuates all gear and doors. When the aircraft is flying faster than 260 kt, a safety valve automatically cuts off hydraulic supply to the landing gear system. Below 260 kt, the hydraulic supply remains cut off as long as the landing gear lever is up.
There is also a chart on the next page with the Boolean logic of the safety valve, which confuses me, it does not match at all with the statement. The logic chart shows the safety valved being closed? (or is it open) when:
L/G lever is DOWN
ADR 1 or 3 <260kts OR
MLG on Ground
There are now 4 conditions mentioned, two in the text and two in the chart. The conditions mentioned in the text refer to a

EASA SFI renewal

Hello all,
I have been picking through Part FCL trying to understand the requirements. One such change is in SFI renewal and revalidation requirements. FCL.940.SFI states that for renewal the applicant shall complete the simulator content of the SFI training course. Now does that mean the type rating content or the sim content of the TRI rating course ie 10 hours of training on a sim acting as the instructor?

UK CAA - Renewal class rating / Instrument

Ciao a tutti,
ho da poco fatto un renewal MEP e IR in Spagna, con esaminatore certificato UK CAA.
La scuola mi ha dato tutti i moduli compilati da spedire alla CAA, ma io ho una perplessità:
Alla CAA inglese devo spedire solo i moduli, oppure tutto (come la prima volta) compreso logbook e licenze attuali?
Essendo un Renewal e non una revalidation, l'esaminatore non ha potuto aggiungere una riga sui rating da revalidare, quindi la CAA deve ristampare la licenza ora?
Qual'è la procedura esatta, qualcuno si è già trovato in questa situazione con gli inglesi?

OZ ATPL conversion to EASA ATPL

Greetings all,
I was just wondering if anyone had any info on how much it costs to do the flight test to convert an Ozzie ATPL to the new EASA European ATPL. I'm currently command endorsed on the Dash-8 Q400 and would like to do the test, I'm assuming in the sim, on the same aircraft, either in Oz or somewhere in Europe if it works out cheaper.
If anyone has done this already or has any info at all, please reply or PM me.
