Dog Grooming Business

I lost my job recently and was looking to start up a dog grooming business from home using my garage, I have a small amount of money put aside to buy equipment and I'm meeting a business adviser next week to see what being self employed is all about, apart from grooming my own dog I don't have much experience but have put my name down for a 10 week dog grooming course at a local agricultural college.
Any tips, suggestions or advice from people who have done similar would be gratefully received.

14 week old kittens refusing to eat cat foods

My adult daughter's cat had 5 kittens 14 weeks ago, 3 are with lovely homes, she has kept one and I have kept the other one.
neither kitten will eat wet cat food, mine will eat some dry cat food and milk (yes I know it's not healthy) but will not entertain wet cat food in any shape or form. he will eat freshly cooked chicken, the odd bit of pasta and the odd bit of rice, likes little bits of cheese.
My daughter's kitten on the other hand started off with dried food and cat milk and will now only have cat milk, she won;t eat cat biscuits, though will eat titbits of meat.
we are both anxious to get our kittens into eating properly, I have been a cat keeper for many many years but have never come across this before, every kitten I've had has taken to eating straight away. Do you have any advi

conflicting advice for new puppy

Hi, although I've been reading I'm new to these lovely forums and thought It's about time I chirped in :)
so I'm getting a puppy in about three weeks and although I've had dips before I can't remember training them as puppies, brother was in charge, but this time it's up to me and the gf and I really want to get it right.
I've been reading about their first few nights and I'm not sure if he should stay down stairs at bed time in his pen area or in his dog bed at the side of my bed.
His pen would be in the kitchen with a little area for his bed but I've read that he should stay with you at night so he doesn't get lonely. I don't want him to get used to sleeping in our room so wasn't sure if it's the right way to go.
Probably a silly question that's popped up before but thought I'd ask anywa

Long line advice or tips?

I've always been a (responsible) flexi user, but having read other threads on PF I thought I'd give long lining a try with Betty. The trouble is, managing the spare lengths, reeling in and out makes me want to have 4 pairs of hands! It generally ends up going behind her front legs and I had to stop several times to keep things un-knotted.
So, just wondered if anyone has any advice on stress-free long line use!

Travel sickness

Took my pup to the vets yesterday which is literally 5 mins away in a car and she was sick. Shes been sick in a car before as well.
This was 3 hours after she'd been fed so wasn't because she'd been fed.
Any remedies or ideas how this can be prevented or helped?

Papillon on a plane?

I'm currently looking for a Papillon pup that'll later come to live with me in Warsaw which means going on a plane. The restrictions are 30cm in height to fly in cabin, is it possible to know if a pup will be higher than this when adult size? Or should I try to get an older pup? I know 30cm foot to head is on the small side for a Papillon and I wish size wasn't a factor but I really do not want to put the dog in the cargo hold of a plane. :(

what type of food is best for a kitten?

I'm getting a kitten in 6 weeks (she will be 8 weeks old) and I'm trying to work out what the best food would be for her, I was looking at royal canin dry food but then heard wet food is better?? also I wondered how many times a day they needed to be fed and how much. I've never owned a cat before so am kind of clueless about food choices and any advice would be appreciated.
I know she will already be on a type of food but I want to change her on to a better one as I think they are going to be weaned onto a store brand food, so want to have both foods in advance so I can slowly switch her over

Can dogs feel guilty?

Like heck they can!
Now I completely accept that when we came home to find my old cocker spaniel had made a mess of some sort that his guilty demeanour was on recognising what my reaction would be to the mess, not that he had caused it.
But this is different. I've foolishly planted up a few pots in the garden hoping that Bess has grown out of her digging everything up phase. She hasn't!
Tonight my OH and I both saw her outside approaching a plant which the obvious intention to free it from the confines of its pot. I jumped up and rapped on the window - Bess jumped up, round and away from the pot with the look on her face that plainly showed she knew she'd been caught out. As I was thinking it my OH said 'guilty or what?'
So yes, Bess knew that she'd been caught out attempting to do somethi

Before I take the plunge in to raw...

Hi guys :)
So, I need some opinions...
I was speaking to a lovely lady from West Fife Raw Suppliers today. She told me that a lot if people add tripe during week two of the raw diet as it contains a lot nutrients and enzymes and helps get the digestive system back on track and ready for richer proteins... What do you think?
It seems like a good idea to me but I'm a raw newbie lol... I was planning on introducing beef during the second week (week one, just chicken obviously).
I'm calling up to make my order tomorrow.
I feel like I'm going to have to get rid of my food from the freezer lol... I'm ordering chicken breasts, chicken mince (with bone), chicken wings, chicken necks, beef mince, beef chunks, meaty beef chunks, tripe mince and tripe chunks... All for !!! Including delivery to Glas

Munchkins Monthly Weigh-In

I just do this for my own records really, so I have a note in case I lose my hard drive :p
Willow - 16th May 4.82 KG - 11th June 4.73 KG
Rowan - 16th May 5.36 KG - 11th June 5.37 KG
Holly - 16th May 5.57 KG - 11th June 5.74 KG
Cedar - 16th May 6.07 KG - 11th June 6.48 KG
Blossom - 16th May 4.70 KG - 11th June 4.76 KG
So Willow is the only one that is slightly worrying - she just has to look up at every tiny noise and takes forever to eat - even if she is in the living room and the rest are in the kitchen.
Rowan is holding his weight, and as long as he isn't losing thats one thing I don't need to worry about with him.
I don't know how Holly does it - she never seems to eat, and I am always trying to encourage her, but shes obviously likes to eat without an audience.
Cedar - well I can't say

Being morbidly sweet

So the BF and I are watching my cat from hell (the one with the cat called Pump). And the wife is wanting to get rid of the 23 year old cat mainly because it belonged originally to her husbands ex girlfriend
So BF turns to me and says
"If you die and I have the cats and I get another girlfriend. If she wanted me to get rid of then then I would get rid of the girlfriend."
As I said, morbidly sweet but why start the conversation with "if you die..."

First baby steps into raw but I've got a problem.

For the first time ever, I gave my two a raw meal each (twice so far today) using Felini Complete and following their recipe.
Watson ate the raw chicken meat, raw chicken heart, Felini Complete, goose fat and water - no problem.
Rosie was quite reluctant - she usually loves raw chicken scraps. I had to partially cook the whole thing and she ate a little chicken but did not touch the heart. On the second meal she was even more reluctant and after a few mouthfuls of chicken meat was sick. The other day she was sick after just starting to eat a day old chick.
A bit later I gave her normal size wet meal of Grau Turkey & Rice and she ate that, no problem.
Any ideas what might be happening here?

Free kittens at 6 weeks. SO ANGRY.

I sometimes have a look at online websites for kittens and cats, as well as the Rescue pages, because I am still giving consideration on finding a friend for Oscar.
I was SO sad to see this advert - somebody who has 5 kittens, at six weeks old, doesn't have time to care for them, so will give them for free to the first people who reply to the advert...???
So, so sad.

Teaching my jack Russell to sit and wait

Hi, so I want to take my jack Russell to agility for fun, it's at the same place I take my dachshund training, I don't take my jrt as the Daxi needs socialisation more, anyway I asked about my jrt starting agility and the trainer said as long as she can sit and wait, she can sit and does wait but not for long, so I just wanted some advice on how I can improve the waiting part really lol, the class starts on Thursday so I haven't got long, I am going to keep reinforcing it as much as I can but does anyone have any tips on improving it? :)
